A Story of Purpose, Passion and Flying Patients to Care
As a boy growing up in Cuba, Fabio LaBrada dreamed of a world beyond his island home. Moving to the United States as a young man, he became the sole caregiver for his mother battling cancer—and discovered something far more powerful than his dreams: his purpose.
Over twenty years ago, Fabio founded Raquel’s Wings for Life to solve a problem he witnessed firsthand: cancer patients shouldn’t have to forgo treatment because they can’t get to it. Flying patients from North Texas to MD Anderson in Houston free of charge, he created a model that could work in communities across the country.
Today the need is urgent and everywhere. On top of a cancer diagnosis, many patients face the burden of getting to care: hours of driving, strain on families and caregivers, even choosing to delay or skip treatment because the logistics are too much. Raquel’s Wings is the story of how one son’s commitment to service became a blueprint for change. It’s about what everyday people can do when they refuse to accept the smallest version of what’s possible—and how lives are saved when we each do what we can.
